Anthony Metivier The Victorious mind

“Working with Amy has been incredible. She really helped me discover the shape of the experiences and technical skills I want to share for readability, clarity, and the best possible reader outcomes. I’m very grateful. I highly recommend working with Amy for your next project.”

“Amy is a first class editor; she is easy to communicate with, rigorous and careful in her work and reliable with deadlines. She has been an outstanding support in the final stages of copy editing an academic manuscript. She is extraordinarily competent, helpful and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.”

“Amy did a fantastic job. I was looking for someone who would look not only at my English and grammar but also at my content (clarity, transitions, etc). What she did was beyond my expectations. She helped me improve the text, doing an excellent copy and line editing and in addition engaged with my content, giving me ideas, challenging me to clarify arguments and points, etc (and all this at a very affordable cost). All in all, my book wouldn’t be the same without Amy’s work. I recommend her strongly to any scholar who wants to improve the quality of his or her manuscript.”

Nona Orbach
The Book of Permission

While strolling Kyoto gardens, thinking, recording, drawing and writing notes about permission, affinity, and the cosmos, I wondered if this might be a text in the making. The ideas were complicated and scattered into so many angles. I was restless: my mind worked obstinately changing modalities, searching for texts in old yellowish diaries. I sensed there were hidden threads there and that something was growing inside.

With the blessing from the Goddess of intuition, I approached Amy Thomas, my previous book editor, for help. I asked her if she would like to meadow with me as a reference to a poem by Robert Duncan, which she introduced me to in my previous book.

Often I Am Permitted to Return to a Meadow
as if it were a scene made-up by the mind,
that is not mine, but is a made place,
that is mine, it is so near to the heart,
an eternal pasture folded in all thought
so that there is a hall therein
that is a made place, created by light
wherefrom shadows that are forms fall. …

I wished her to listen to the chaos in my head and help me understand what was I thinking and organize it. I gave her permission not to be an editor but rather, to hold my hand and see where this process goes – if at all.

She agreed to meadow with me.

So she asked many questions that evolved into fruitful pages and connections between parts of my life. Her deep love for words and poetry was implemented with care, which was also helpful in making the Hebrew thinking aligned with English.

You mention Kyoto often – what is it for you, Nona?

Can you elaborate more on Parchment?

She became a midwife for The book of Permission and my personal growth.

Thank you, Amy!

“I want to thank you for your reading and relating to the text. It makes me happy to see how gentle, accurate, and attuned you are. A video I took in a Zen garden in Kyoto is a ‘translation’ of your work…”

“I enjoyed working with Amy! I was searching for a copy editor for my new book and my wish was to find the best editor there is. I feel that I found what I was looking for! As a foreign English speaker I felt that Amy was able to clarify my text and give it the final touch it needed. I especially appreciated that she had strong attention to detail, she was punctual and it was easy to communicate with her. I can whole-heartedly recommend her!”

“Thank YOU Amy for doing such a splendid job!  I feel really lucky to have landed such a great copyeditor: efficient, highly skilled and very nice!”

“Amy was so fast and efficient, but she was also really thorough, and I felt went above and beyond with her thoughtful reading of the manuscript. It was such an enjoyable experience for me.”
